– BAKING –
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
I hope you have all had an amazing Halloween so far! This is my second post today, so if you haven’t seen the one I uploaded earlier then definitely check it out, click here. I have one last Blogtober post for you all, and it is a baking one. I made red velvet halloween cupcakes. I really wanted to focus on the decoration for these cupcakes, I hope you enjoy!
– LETS GET STARTED –
Ingredients that you will need for the red velvet (makes 12)
60g unsalted butter at room temp
150g caster sugar
1 egg
20g cocoa powder
2 tablespoons of red food colouring
1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract
120ml buttermilk
150g plain flower
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon vinegar
What you will need for decorations
Halloween sprinkles
Black and Orange icing
Spiders and Ghost cocktail sticks
You can use whatever decorations you like
Equipment that you will need
Mixing bowl
A spatula
12 Halloween Cupcake cases + Cupcake tin
Whisk
Spoon
Wire rack
Method to make the cupcakes:
Step one: preheat the oven to 180oc and put the 12 cupcake cases into the tin
Step two: in a mixing bowl, mix together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Then add in the eggs, buttermilk, red food colouring and vanilla extract. Then add in the bicarbonate of soda and the vinegar. Combine the flour, cocoa powder and stir until well blended.
Step three: spoon the mixture evenly into the cupcake cases. I like to use a spoon for this as you can be more precise.
Step four: place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Use a cocktail stick to poke the inside of the cupcake and if it comes out clean then it is ready.
Step five: get the cupcakes out of the tin and place on a wire rack. Poke the top of the cupcake with a cocktail stick a couple of times and wait until cold before icing as the icing will just melt.
Method to decorate:
Step one: get a piping bag and place the colour icing you want inside the bag. Then pipe it onto the top of the cupcake. You can use whatever nozzle you like and you can pipe in whatever style you like.
Step two: add the sprinkles and other decorations. Once finished, they are ready to be eaten.
