” To move forward, you have to give back. ” – Oprah Winfrey
Having discovered Eventbrite on the internet and becoming really intrigued with what they do, I wanted to create this post. This post will be about me reflecting on charity work I have done and how much I give back to those who need it. The first thing I thought about when writing it was how much I actually give back to charities and non – profitable organisations. Then the second thing I thought about was how important I think this post will be to my viewers.
Giving back to those who may need it when you are in a very good position is really important. The amount of sad news that we hear on a daily basis whether this be on the news, on social media or hearing it on the radio, there are a lot of people who suffer. There is a lot of support out there for people to get involved with, but because people are really busy in their own lives (which is understandable) we sometimes forget who important it is to help those who may need it.
I sat back for a while and reflected on my life and how fortunate I am. I am 20 years old, I work, I am currently at University, I have a GREAT home life, I am healthy, I am stable for money and I am alive. Then I also sat there and thought about all of the times that I have given back and as bad as it sounds, I have properly only given back once and it was five years ago…
In 2012, I took part in a 24 hour cancer relay to support Cancer Research UK. I took part in this as this charity is really close to my heart as my Nanny sadly passed away in 2006 to Cancer and so did my Auntie Stella in 2004. I was 15 when I did this relay and the team that I was in managed to raise over £400!!! It was really beautiful for everyone that took part to celebrate how much money everyone had raised and to remember those that we have lost due to cancer.
The picture on the left is a picture of me walking around the Deangate Ridge track and the picture on the right is a picture of me that my mum took before I did the event. I am wearing a picture of my Nanny to show why I am taking part in this event.
I did this event with a couple of my friends as we all wanted to do it together. We stayed over night and camped in a tent. The relay was 24 hours and you had to take part in groups. The aim was that someone from your group was on the track at all times, whether this be walking, running, jumping or even rolling. During the evening, we all took time out to light candles for those that we had lost and we placed them on the grass. The candles spelt out ‘HOPE’ and ‘LOVE’. While at the event we were given paper bags which were filled with sand and a tea light candle. On the paper bag we were asked if we could write out why we were talking part in the event and who we were supporting. The picture below is me writing this out, I am here to support everyone who Is going through cancer or has been through cancer and personally, I was here to support my Nanny and Auntie. I kept this bag to this day!!
( HOPEFULLY NO ONE WILL MIND ME UPLOADING THIS PICTURE ) This picture was taken before the relay actually started.
Writing this post made me realise that I don’t give back enough, even to charities that might not be personal to me. I want to start going out of my way to give back to those who might need it. So if there is anyone that is reading this post that feels the same way as me, you want to get involved more than this is the best website for you http://www.charitychoice.co.uk as you can search the sections in which the charities fall under that you might want to give back too. There are so many charities out there that you can search up.

Thank you. I AGREE. I don’t think I do either. But I am going to start doing more! xx
I did the relay for life earlier in the year and I loved it!! A lot of fun
Sounds amazing! I’m glad you loved it! x
This post is fab! I always think about trying to do things in order to give back too x
Thank you! I agree! x
These are some excellent charities! Many moons ago, I used to help at Girl Guides and we used to do all sorts for charity. Other the last few years I’ve unfortunately slipped into donating to charities be it either my time or cold hard cash.

Sorry I just checked my spam comments and your comment was sent straight to my spam which is annoying. So sorry for the late reply!
I think it is easy for that to happen though isn’t it and that is so good though!
Love this! You are so sweeet xxxxx

Thank you x
Hi, great post it has prompted me to help out a little more. There are so many great organisations out there needing help.
Thank you. I am glad then! I agree
Great post- I love charity stuff- I sponsor a child in Tanzania and a couple of years ago I did a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro for the charity. I feel like more people should get involved with charity pursuits but sadly most people aren’t that way inclined.
Thank you. That is so good, well done you. I agree, there are some people that don’t get involved with charity work just because life happens and people are busy, but there are people out there that won’t give to charity which I think is wrong
This is such a touching post. I’m sorry that your Nan passed away. You’ve done such an amazing thing by giving back to these wonderful charities. I would like to run a marathon for a charity one day!

It’s so lovely to see posts like this! I definitely haven’t done as much for charity as I should have, thanks for sharing!
Thank you. Any time xx
This post has really got me thinking. I have donated to charity before, but have never gotten involved in anything (that I can think of), definitely something I want to do in future. What really plays on my mind at the moment is the environment and the problems with plastic, would love to get involved in a beach clean up or something.

That is still great. A lot of people haven’t even done that before. I agree, people can make the beaches look so unpleasant when beaches can be really stunning! The environmental problem is just down to people being lazy! x
What a lovely post, definitely got me thinking. I always try to donate to charity when I can but definitely should do more. Xx

Sorry to hear about your grandma Sophia! I think it’s really awesome of you to start getting involved with charities at such a young age! 🙂
I really appreciate you saying that, so thank you. Thank you and I agree, I think if you start young then it will just come naturally to you when you are older
This is a beautiful post and a fantastic reminder that we have to think beyond ourselves. Thank you.

And I was just thinking about this today!! This post couldn’t have been more timely for me (with Hurricane Harvey and all)! Eventbrite truly is a wonderful tool to use to be able to look for ways to get more involved in different causes.
I know, I heard about it on the news this morning. It is so terrible. I agree!
