Behind the instagrams

The other day I sat there scrolling through instagram and thought

“You know what, I put so much thought and effort into my Instagram pictures, that it would be so cool if people could see what went into them”

Sort of like a behind the scenes to my pictures, where people can see where I took them and how, and maybe if there is a cool story behind the picture I can share that too. Instagram is such a massive platform in this day and age, people literally have full time jobs just posting on instagram. It is such a great place to work with brands and also make lots of online friends. A lot of people , (including myself, at times) take Instagram WAYYY too seriously. But on the other hand, it is hard not to when you are working towards a goal of it being successful. One of the reasons I wanted to make this post is just for a bit of fun, but also because I feel like there are a lot of negative connotations when it comes to instagram. People’s engagement can be bad and you lose followers like there is no tomorrow. I just wanted to create something fun and different.

IDEA

I had a clear idea of how I wanted this Instagram picture to look. The night before I took this picture, I did a little thinking about my Instagram feed. What new content I wanted to bring and just new vibes in general. This is the first picture on my Instagram feed where I started to change up the vibe of my feed and also the first picture I uploaded where I noticed a massive difference with my engagement. (POST COMING SOON ABOUT UPPING INSTAGRAM ENGAGMENT)  I wanted this low angle where the camera looked slightly up at me, with a lot of the background in sight. I knew that I wanted my whole body in the picture and I definitely knew that I was going for a more cool / chilled out vibe.  I love the way this picture turned out because the sky looks fab and you can really see my pop of eyeshadow. I think I pulled off the picture pretty well and definitely achieved what I was after.

LOCATION

In my back garden. We have this really nice sofa area.

HOW

Self timer is literally my bestie right now. When I decided that I wanted to change up my content abit, I understood that I was going to have to start using self timer a lot more. Meaning that even if I was out in public, I might need to pull out my camera and put it on self timer. I don’t always have people to help me take pictures, so this is just one of those things I am going to have to get used to. I balanced my phone on one of the sofa chairs and used self timer for 10 seconds.

IDEA

When I first thought about how I would take product pictures for the Zoella X Colorpop range, I literally had no clue what I was going to do. I received the parcel, dropped everything I was doing and got my camera out. When taking pictures I tried a lot of different things and it wasn’t working for me. I knew I wanted something cool and fun, because her collection is just that. I ran to the shop and brought some egg sweets because I kinda thought this was genius at the time (LOL). As soon as I added the sweets, the pictures came really easily. I also added clear cellophane and put it around the products (hence the weird white parts on the box). I really love the way the picture turned out because you can see the products clearly and the egg sweets just add a good touch to it.

LOCATION

On my bed. You know how it is, the covers are everywhere and there are around 10000 different things on your floor.

HOW

I actually took this picture on my mums phone, as she has the newest iPhone and her camera quality is amazing. I also had really bad low battery on this day which was so annoying. My mum held the bright pink cushion up at the back for me because I wanted this as a background.

IDEA

I didn’t plan this picture at all. Me and my mum had parked up outside the house as we had just been shopping at Tesco’s. When we got out the car, I was like  “those flowers are nice, I need to get a picture” LOL, literally just like that. When I saw the flowers I instantly had a picture in my head of how the instagram would look. I knew I wanted the main focus to be on my nails because they looked super cute and matched the colour of the flowers. I also really wanted to show off the lace detail on my jumper because it is really lovely. Sometimes taking random pictures like this can spark your creativity and bring something fresh to your feed.

LOCATION

On my street, outside my house. Thanks to the lady for letting me use your flowersss!

HOW

My mum is actually my biggest supporter, she always offers to take pictures for me. She put all of the shopping on the floor and helped me take this picture, such a BAE! I really like the angle as it is like a close up mid body angle, couldn’t have gone any better.

Love this! Honestly, I think sometimes we can really overthink our content. Just have fun and be natural!

I posted this picture recently – https://www.instagram.com/p/BwkZtBIAuZP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link in all honesty I actually put off posting it for a bit. When I took it, my thoughts were ‘I’m going to grow a pair and actually post this picture of myself’ haha! Mainly because I was wearing glasses and hardly any makeup. But you know what, I thought I really enjoyed myself that day and who cares that I wasn’t fully made up. Most days I wear my glasses and hardly any makeup, but why am I so scared of being captured like it?! Recently I have taken the mindset of..this is me- take it or leave it 🙂 you have to be you you’re whole life so learn to love yourself 😊

To be fair, a lot of my Instagram pictures have funny stories behind them! Most of my product pictures involve me having a softbox balanced on my head/shoulder to get the lighting and shadows right!

It takes a lot of prep work to get the perfect shot! I mean, even though it takes a lot of work for the post, if it makes you happy, worth it, right? Pretty cool that you took advantage of your garden for the cute picture! Thanks for sharing these behind the scenes tips!
